Promoting hydrogen evolution reaction with a sulfonic proton relay

چکیده
Enzymes can activate otherwise unreactive substrates by using residues precisely located in the active sites. We herein report on a Ga porphyrin which bears second-sphere sulfonic group (named as 1) and its high efficiency for electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Complex 1 achieve large TOF value of 1.3 × 105 s−1 at low 295-mV overpotential with weak acetic acid (HOAc) proton source. Notably, catalyze H2 generation potentials close to thermodynamic HER equilibrium, but sulfonic-free analogues require >250 mV more cathodic initiate HER. Mechanistic studies showed that two-electron reduced porphyrins were protonated form GaIII-H. For 1, GaIII-H underwent rapid protonolysis HOAc evolve H2, analogues, their required further reduction trigger catalysis. This work presents synthetic molecular catalyst rates under overpotentials promoting metal hydrides acids.

In situ activation of a Ni catalyst with Mo ion for hydrogen evolution reaction in alkaline solution
In this study Ni catalyst have been activated during hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by adding Mo ions into the alkaline electrolyte. After dissolving different amounts of ammonium molybdate in the 1M NaOH as electrolyte, Ni catalyst was used as cathode for HER. Afterwards a comparison between hydrogen overpotential measured in Ni catalyst with and without in situ activation has been made; th...
متن کاملProton-hydride tautomerism in hydrogen evolution catalysis.
Efficient generation of hydrogen from renewable resources requires development of catalysts that avoid deep wells and high barriers. Information about the energy landscape for H2 production can be obtained by chemical characterization of catalytic intermediates, but few have been observed to date. We have isolated and characterized a key intermediate in 2e(-) + 2H(+) → H2 catalysis. This interm...
متن کاملRole of pendant proton relays and proton-coupled electron transfer on the hydrogen evolution reaction by nickel hangman porphyrins.
The hangman motif provides mechanistic insights into the role of pendant proton relays in governing proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) involved in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). We now show improved HER activity of Ni compared with Co hangman porphyrins. Cyclic voltammogram data and simulations, together with computational studies using density functional theory, implicate a shift ...
متن کاملFacile Hydrogen Evolution Reaction on WO3Nanorods
Tungsten trioxide nanorods have been generated by the thermal decomposition (450 C) of tetrabutylammonium decatungstate. The synthesized tungsten trioxide (WO3) nanorods have been characterized by XRD, Raman, SEM, TEM, HRTEM and cyclic voltammetry. High resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the synthesized WO3 nanorods are crystalline in nature w...
متن کاملApplication of Pd-Substituted Ni-Al Layered Double Hydroxides for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction
Clean production of hydrogen from electrochemical water splitting has been known as a green method of fuel production. In this work, electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) was investigated at new prepared layered double hydroxides (LDH) in acidic solution. NiAl/carbon black (CB) LDH was monitored using x-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scannin...
